The discovery of semiconductor materials paved way to the tremendous advancements in the field of electronics. It started with the simple PN junction formed by fusing P type semiconductor material and N type semiconductor material forming the discrete component rectifier. Then followed inventions of several discrete components such as Zener diodes, Light Emitting Diodes, transistors, Uni Junction Transistors (UJT), Diacs, Triacs, SCRs, FETs, MOSFETs, IGBT etc., These components are used alone as individual components in a circuit board and as well as a part of Integrated Circuits (ICs) or as a part of power modules.
